KUYICHI X UBUNTU

Urban Fair visited the Bread & Butter in Berlin to capture the launch of the unique T-shirt collection KUYICHI X UBUNTU. This organic T-shirt collection is the result of an inspiring collaboration between the sustainable denim label Kuyichi and the Ubuntu Academy Cape Town. Together they developed a 4 item silk screen printed collection. The unique graphics are created by the talented youth and enable them to express their personal vision and dreams. This project stimulates and empowers them to explore their talents and develop their entrepreneurship.

Lisa Ottevanger, designer and initiator of UBUNTU DESIGN believes that inspiration is the key to success and that everyone should have the opportunity to develop their talent out of their authentic strength and personal believes.

The Ubuntu Academy is an initiative from Ubuntu Theatre organization. The Academy runs a two year skills development program for talented youth (ages 16-28) in Cape Town, South Africa. The Ubuntu Academy uses creativity, arts, leadership and entrepreneurship to train 55 students towards a sustainable future. The aim is to grow their talent and potential and guide them to become the inspiring leaders of the next generation.

Design for social change

This creative collaboration is a perfect example how you can DESIGN the CHANGE, together.  A reason why the Ubuntu Academy is engaging in collaborations with progressive brands that has a strong believe in social change. Young South African artists will work closely with brands and professional designers to mutually inspire and create unparalleled collections. Products will bring alive human diversity while bridging the gap between businesses and countries.
